Hida duelist? If it is assumed that:
First blood assumes Wounds have been done,
Can a Hida Bushi with The Mountain Does Not Move (VP + roll Earth vs dam to suffer no wounds) to suck up the iaijutsu strike? Sure the guy hit, but there is no blood. Combat would take place as norm till someone got hit, but then you are in combat with a Hida, and that will ruin anyone's day... And it takes the wind out of any Duelist's sails.
I realize the incredable cheese that this is, but is there a way in the RAW to get past this?

First, it has been ruled that duels to the first blood do not require actual wounds to be dealt.
Sure the guy hit, but there is no blood.
There IS blood, just not enough to cause a would point, much like a razor nicking you face.
Combat would take place as norm till someone got hit, but then you are in combat with a Hida, and that will ruin anyone's day... And it takes the wind out of any Duelist's sails.
IF duels to the first blood required a wound (like they did in first edition) then yes, you hypotheses would be correct. This was the reason EVERY Crane duelists took Kakita Rensai as an ancestor to prevent their damage from being ignored.

By the RAW? No. By Shawn Carman and Rich Wulf saying so? Yes.

This is why Hida and Moto bushi like to duel to unconsciousness (as stated in way of the unicorn) Sure, they get hit... Then it becomes a war of attrition. Kakita aren't so good at that.
Thankfully Kakita Rensai is gone.
I had a character with that ancestor, and boy was he a good Oni killer. Invulnerability? What is that? Carapace? What? I nerfed it a bit by being an unarmed combat specialist, but it didn't make that much difference in the end. I could still pull an Oni's heart out of its chest in one attack by the time I hit rank 4.

I did like the specific-effect Ancestor system more than the general Ancestors we've got now, though.
