Resurrection of the Jourei Bengoshi There was a dream that once rules lawyers would help AEG and L5R players deal with rules problems within the 3rd Edition L5R RPG. It is time we reform ourselves. I am asking for all allies and Jourei Bengoshi members to help reorganize this group and bring back the organization to its former imperative. The original Jourei Bengoshi never needed AEG's approval to work and we don't need it now. We helped the L5R community because we wanted to help not because me might become official play-*test*-('")er or get some perceived medal. So please join me in bringing it back. :D
I for one am going to get back to my project of helping Tsukaede get all the rulings into a central archive. It might take awhile, but hopefully we can get the rules together into a cohesive location (like the CCG).

I do not know if i can be of any help.
But if i can i would gladly give you my meager abilities.

For starters, maybe we can start discussing each question posed without an answer on the AEG forum that we can.
EDIT: What I want to propose would be for an unofficial thread at the AEG forums called the "Jourei Bengoshi Rules Help Thread." From there we can bring back questions here and then post concrete rules information based upon current rulings and the RAW. What do you think?
EDIT2: Matsu Katsumoto is busy, but wants to help. So we have three members who will help with our revival.

I fear that if we open such a thread in the AEG forums we risk the spamming of questions.
And personally i can quickly feel overwhelmed.

If you think we can handle that i will follow your lead. And maybe some will join us in our quest. ^^

Count me in. I have been at school and had a surgery in August and have just fallen out of the habit of surfing the AEG boards. It might take me a bit to get back in touch with my inner rules lawyer.

Great to see you again Matsu Katsumoto. :) I'll try to get in contact with Tsukaede on some stuff and I PMed Shawn a request as far as getting some of our stuff previously done green lighted. :)
One thing that I think could be important is to get a ruling archive done ASAP. However, that's a pretty big undertaking and are there any good ways to implement this into an easy interface for players to use? Tsukaede and I were thinking of using a Wiki, but do you guys think anything else might prove easier/better?

I'm willing to help, but my rules-fu isn't as strong as most of the JB members. I can bring common sense in the mix, though, as well as perspective to keep the "fun" in the game (if pure rule-lawyering was the goal of RPG, we would all be playing chess instead...).
Also, with the fanzine Musha Shugyo in the works, I won't have a lot of free time left.
*shameless plug* BTW, the door's still open for a few more JB to join us. There is a column intended to answer the most frequent questions about L5R RPG rules and explain them in details (L5R for Dummies, if you will) that hasn't found many takers to write for it.

If pure rule-lawyering was the goal we would play shogi ;) to keep in-theme. Or maybe Go. ^^
A wiki can be an idea but maybe a CMS like Joomla would do a better job. In a wiki each and everyone can edit each and everything.
As far a rules are concerned i only have the third edition books and so i may be of no use sometimes.

Outside of some sort of online database, a wiki is probably the best bet.

I think a wiki is what we want. There is free-ware software that can help us. But I think I will force myself to spend the next few evenings trying to compile old post from the Shawn, Brian, and Rich Wulf on the 3rd Edition RPG. I am going to first start with Shawn Carman, so if anyone wants to get started by sifting through Brian or Rich, I would be grateful. :)

I am unfortunately nearly booked out with m job, writing my thesis and actually GMing my L5R game + playing a WHFRP one.
I have at least time to give a look at what is written and comment.
While I am more than a bit of a Rule Lawyer myself, I am actually really interested in the Spirit of the Rule rather than the RAW. So I propose that we should look at con-*test*-('")ed or badly written rules and then present two things :
1. The RAW interpretation
2. A homebrew version of the rule that would follow the Spirit of the action rather than an often badly written or simply wrong rule.
Kakita Seigi- 12-11-2007
Agreed! Unless, of course, Tsukaede gets the power to change the rules... 8)

My searchfu must be lacking. I tried to do a search on Rich Wulf's posts and didn't come up with much. I wonder if they deleted some of them. :(
