Spears Emphasis for the Magari-Yari
In previous editions, the Magari-Yari was mechanically identical to the yari. Now it has its own rules (MoW pg. 112); compared to a yari, it deals an extra 1k0 damage in melee but has only half of the thrown range. It specifically mentions not having the standard yari's damage bonus for mounted characters. So, for characters that want an Emphasis to apply to the magari-yari, what do you think is most reasonable? A. They are still similar enough that the Yari Emphasis should apply (and it's got "Yari" in the name). Note it in the weapon entry. B. Since it's now a separate weapon, it needs a separate Emphasis. Note it in the Skill. C. Don't bother. Leave it up to individual GM's. I'm in favor of A, mainly because the Revised book just went to print (presumably) without a magari-yari entry or Emphasis. As a side effect, it benefits the Lion Warden / Lion Elite Spearmen, who get a Yari Emphasis for free and would therefore have to pay extra to get a second Emphasis. I personally think it's a good thing for Lion's two spear-based Paths to synergise well, especially since they can be taken together without paying for MS.
